MONTELLO, Wis. -- A 21-year-old Westfield man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for a knife attack on his family and a sheriff's deputy. Jonathan Mack pleaded no contest in March to one count of attempted first-degree intentional homicide and one count of battery to a law enforcement officer. Charges related to the attack on his mother, sister and grandmother were dropped at their request. His mother and sister said Mack has suffered from drug and alcohol addiction for years and they forgive him.
Mack apologized Wednesday to the deputy who was injured while responding to his sister's December 2006 call for help. He said he would take back his actions if he could. Marquette County Circuit Court Judge Richard Wright also sentenced Mack to six years of extended supervision.
