AAA Recommends Ways To Save Money On Gas

POSTED: 1:51 pm CDT April 21, 2006

There does not appear to be any relief in sight for the pain at the gas pump.

But AAA officials said that there are ways drivers can save money at the pump. They recommend:

  • drivers make sure that their tires are properly inflated to get the most miles out of that tank of gas.
  • drivers try not to stack anything on top of their car. If headed on a trip or moving, packing anything on the roof of the vehicle will create extra weight that works against the gas mileage.
  • drivers can save money by sticking with regular unleaded gas. AAA officials said that people only need to fill up with the more expensive grades of gas if their vehicle's manufacturer specifically recommends it.

Wisconsin's prices don't seem quite as high when compared to Hawaii, according to AAA information. In Hawaii, the statewide average is $3.15 a gallon. Meanwhile, Utah drivers aren't getting hit quite as hard in the wallets, as the average price there for a gallon of regular unleaded is $2.45.
