A federal judge ruled Monday that a Milwaukee alderman is eligible for bail.

Supporters of Alderman Michael McGee, of Milwaukee's 6th District, last month posted the $50,000 bail set for state charges of bribery and conspiracy to commit substantial battery.

  • Once that bail was posted, the federal government took McGee into custody and asked he be held without bail. Magistrate Judge Patricia Gorence ruled Monday that McGee can be released on $10,000 bail.

McGee's attorney, Glenn Givens, said McGee could be back at City Hall as early as Wednesday. McGee will be under electronic monitoring and is ordered to not have contact with any witnesses in his cases.
