MILWAUKEE -- The district attorney is expected to hand over federal evidence regarding jailed Alderman Michael McGee Jr. in a closed-door meeting on Tuesday. The judge said he wanted to make sure the alderman can adequately prepare his defense.District Attorney John Chisholm said that he’s trying to comply with the court’s order, but it may not be good enough.
On Monday, the judge was supposed to decide whether the jury could hear federal wiretaps in the alderman’s trial on battery and election fraud. But McGee’s lawyer said the state wasn’t handing over copies of the FBI complaint that had started the investigation.“I don’t understand how a complaint that was filed with a police organization or law enforcement organization is administrative, and not subject to review by the defense,” said Glenn Givens, McGee’s attorney. McGee is facing both state and federal charges.
