The beating of a Milwaukee County bus driver has made national headlines. For George Wheeler, a retired Milwaukee County bus driver, the scene is all too familiar.

Wheeler was a bus driver for 19 years, and he was also the victim of an attack.

“I had some things happen,” said Wheeler, “but nothing that violent.”

Last December, a young man got on Wheeler’s bus and wouldn’t show his fare. Wheeler said he kept asking to see it, but the man didn't comply and then got violent.

Wheeler said he was drug out of the seat and punched.

“I have a scar on my head,” Wheeler recounted. “We ended up fighting on the bus. I got tossed around.”

The fight went on until Wheeler was able to call dispatch for help.

Wheeler doesn’t know if his attacker was ever caught.
