MADISON, Wis. -- A father accused of killing his disabled son before shooting himself died from his injuries Wednesday afternoon.
Father Accused Of Killing Disabled Son Dies Police said 12-year-old Kyle Dutter’s father shot him Tuesday in Madison. He died a short time later.
People who knew 12-year-old Kyle Dutter said he was a sweet boy who laughed a lot. His principal said Kyle didn’t let his development disability get in the way of enjoying life, a life that ended Tuesday morning.Madison police said Kyle’s father, 36-year-old Ryan Dutter, who lived in Middleton, shot his son and then shot himself. The two were found in a Sports Utility Vehicle in Madison.Dutter used to live in Kenosha and two years ago he was a volunteer firefighter in the town of Somers. “Seemed like a pretty nice guy don't know why he would do this but you never know about anybody,” former co-worker Carl Kirkorian said.The fire chief said Dutter had an impressive resume. He was a mortgage broker in Racine and had served in the Navy and the Marines.“He did a good job in the short time he was here,” Town of Somers Fire Department Chief Steve Krause said.Dutter even ran for town chairman in Somers but he resigned when financial trouble came to light.Records show Dutter and Kyle’s mother got divorced in 1999 and Dutter has had financial problems for years. Dutter has been sued multiple times for unpaid bills and he filed for bankruptcy last fall.Dutter was married a second time and 12 News spoke to his ex wife who lives in Kenosha. She said Dutter was a good father who adopted her children. She said she can’t understand what has happened. Kyle Dutter lived with his father in Middleton during the week and spent time with his mother in Beloit on the weekends.
