Brendan's Blog: Responsibilities

The 2008 presidential election is a little over a year away, yet the national media seems to focus on the election as if it is happening next week.I don't like to speak for the entire American public but I think people currently care more about "Dancing with the Stars" than they do about Hillary Clinton's health care (no matter how ridiculous it is, here's a link to her plan: www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/09/17/health.care).People just don't care right now, especially young people. One year is an eternity for young people. I personally map my life out one day at a time.
Here's the secret: Young people don't have nearly as many responsibilities as adults do. Presidential candidates are almost always traveling upstream when trying to attract the young whipper snapper vote.First off, to be president of the United States, you have to be at least 35 years old. So any presidential candidate is going to be at least twice the age of the normal college student. To get the young vote in America, a politician has to convince people with very little responsibilities to care about something that they don’t really have to care about. After all, America is the land of the free. Nobody forces you to vote. You have to want to vote.Right now, people want to watch "Dancing with the Stars" or "American Idol." My goal is to help change that.
